Very unusual Victorian silver presentation prize for marksmanship in 1873. ¬†The inscription in one cartouche reads ‚ÄúPresented in remembrance of the late Sergeant Tilley won by Private J. G. Keynes. 1873. The other cartouche reads ‚ÄúDefence not Defiance‚ÄĚ a motto adopted by volunteers in response to the feared invasion by Napoleon III. ¬†The goblet is supported on three rifles with attached bayonets.
