Very rare boxed pair of Victorian silver gilt posy holders

Alexander Macrae London 1875

Stunning and rare pair of silver gilt posy holders by the specialist worker Alexander Macrae of London in 1875.  They are spring loaded so that when you pull down the lug on the bottom it allows the three feet to spring out to allow the posy holders to stand up unaided. They are each set with tiny turquoise stones and are beautifully hand engraved. These were made by a superb craftsman and are exquisitely engineered.

Alexander Macrae became within a few years the basis of the great C.J.Vander business after they integrated his designs and techniques into their operation. They were suppliers of fine goods to the West End trade and in particular the gentry.
